Refugee Transitions
Refugee Transitions is an unbelievable non-profit organization located in San Francisco, CA. We are honored to support the work they do. Read about their services below.
Vision of Refugee Transitions (www.reftrans.org):
To see refugee and immigrant families transition successfully and become full, participating members of their new communities. It is Refugee Transitions foremost priority to teach its clients English. This is seen as the most critical skill to allow clients to become engaged members of the local community. This is done primarily through in-home teaching by volunteers. The current volunteer staff is over 120 people.
The following is a profile of Refugee Transitions' clients:
- 100% are low-income
- 100% are limited English proficient
- 47% are at a low-beginner level upon enrollment
- 27% are non-literate even in their native language
- 75% are women
Financial Tutoring Vision:
The purpose of the Financial Tutoring program is to expose refugees to financial topics and enable them to make basic financial decisions.
- This must present useful and realistic financial topics that will be used by the refugees.
- This must be done in consideration that refugees often have limited English skills.
- This must be done in consideration that refugees often have limited work experience.
Invested Interests has created basic financial lessons for Refugee Transitions’ clients. The lessons have been included in the curriculum funded by the California Department of Education.

About Asylum Access (www.asylumaccess.org):
Asylum Access was founded to make refugee rights a practical reality in the global south -- in Africa, Asia and Latin America. After years of seeing refugees denied asylum and deported to face torture and death, a group of refugee advocates came together determined to create a world where international guarantees of refugee safety were more than broken promises. Recognizing that legal assistance was the key to empowering refugees to assert all of their international human rights, these advocates created Asylum Access to provide free, on-the-ground legal counsel and representation in the first countries refugees reach, and to advocate for increased recognition of refugee rights at national and international levels.
Legal Aid:
Asylum Access's legal aid program offers free legal counsel and representation to refugees seeking to assert their legal rights to safety, employment and social services. Asylum Access is partnering with local organizations in Africa and Asia to develop pilot programs which we will then replicate in other countries throughout the global south.
Public Education & Policy Advocacy:
Asylum Access's public education and policy advocacy program promotes the full realization of refugee rights. At the United Nations, Asylum Access advocates for greater accountability and effective due process in asylum-related proceedings conducted or overseen by the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. In the global south, Asylum Access advocates for national implementation of legal protections for refugees. In the U.S., Asylum Access educates the public on the importance of rights-based assistance to refugees.
Invested Interests has created a Social Investment Policy Statement for Asylum Access. This valuable document has allowed Asylum Access to align their endowements, retirement plans and other investments with their mission of reducing the incidence of refugee crises around the world. Of current importance, Invested Interests' ability to assist Asylum Access in creating and applying screens that focus on the Sudan/Darfur issue have proven extremely relevant.
ImprovWorks
ImprovWorks is one of the longest running theater programs in the Bay Area. Invested Interests.com has provided ImprovWorks with investment consulting services for over 5 years.

ImprovWorks is a not-for-profit theater arts organization devoted to the teaching and performance of improvisational theater.
Invested Interests is the investment manager for ImprovWork's endowement funds. The funds are managed in accordance to the investment objectives of ImprovWorks and the Social Investment Policy Statement.
