What criteria is used to score and rate companies?

The Invested Interests' environment issue screen is calculated based on information from many sources. These include public records, government reports, management interviews and even NGO research. The following are some of the specific criteria used on the environment screen:

  • The number of Superfund sites for which a company is partly or wholly responsible.
  • The amount of toxic emissions a company has released into the atmosphere
  • Six year trend in a company's toxic emissions released into the atmosphere
  • The number of oil and chemical spills for which the company is responsible
  • Six year trend in a company's reported oil and chemical spills
  • Fines leveled against the company by the EPA in the past year, relative to the company's overall revenues
  • Six year trend in a company's fines
  • Waste materials produced over the past year relative to the company's overall revenues
  • Six year trend in the company's waste generated
